Days of severe flooding turns north of NSW state into disaster zone

The state government of Australia’s New South Wales (NSW)  has declared 5 northern districts as disaster zones after days of severe flooding transformed Bellingen, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore and Richmond Valley areas into swampland.

  • NSW, Australia. Nearly a week of severe flooding has turned northern parts of Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state into disaster zones.
    • The state government of NSW has declared 5 northern districts as disaster zones after days of severe flooding transformed Bellingen, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore and Richmond Valley areas into swampland.
    • “This weather system has caused a lot of damage to critical infrastructure, property and road networks,” said a senior official.
    • At least 1,500 people remain isolated by the floods since the mega deluge began on January 24, reports said.
