These two false-color images taken by MODIS on NASA’s Aqua satellite on May 3, 2011 (top), and April 29, 2011 (bottom) show conditions along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. (See an image from 2010 for a comparison.) The image taken on May 3 shows the floodway downstream of Cairo completely submerged after the Army Corps of Engineers blew up a levee near Cairo which sits at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
