Bosnia capital Sarajevo paralyzed by deadly snow

Bosnia’s death toll from a week-long freeze has climbed to at least a dozen. More than a meter of snow fell in Sarajevo on Saturday, trapping thousands of people in their homes and blocking roads.

  • Bosnia-Herzegovina. The big freeze has brought record loe temperatures and massive snowfall to Bosnia, leaving at least a dozen people dead across the country.
    • The government has declared a state of emergency in the capital Sarajevo, after more than a meter of snow fell in on Saturday, trapping thousands of people in their homes and blocking roads.
      • The temperatures in some parts of the country dipped to as low as -29ºC (minus 20ºF) earlier this week.
      • The big freeze in Europe has left hundreds, possibly thousands of people dead and thousands more afflicted with hypothermia and frostbite.

Other Global Disasters

  • Croatia. The coastal areas of Croatia have received a large blanket of snow causing chaos throughout the region, and leaving several people dead.
    • Abnormally low temperatures and snowstorms forced the authorities in the southern county of Split-Dalmatia to declare a state of emergency.
