Floods Damage Hundreds of Homes in Wisconsin

States of emergency declared in seven Wisconsin counties due to sever flooding

Governor Walker has declared a state of emergency for Ashland, Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Richland, St. Croix, and Vernon Counties due to widespread flooding caused by extreme rain events.

The flooding in Midwest prompted NWS to issue numerous flood and flash flood warnings for multiple counties in Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

NWS issued an urgent flash flood warning for downtown Janesville, Fort Atkinson and Milton, “where rain was falling at a rate of one inch every 15 minutes earlier Wednesday.” said a report.

“Grant County, which includes Boscobel, reported 640 homes with minor flood damage and 20 with more significant damage.”

Arkansas Declared a Major Disaster Area

The Disaster President has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Arkansas in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period May 30 to June 3, 2013.

The areas worst affected by the disaster are the counties of Cleburne, Cross, Independence, Montgomery, Poinsett, Polk, Scott, Searcy, Stone, Van Buren, and Woodruff.

The Disaster President has declared a major disaster exists for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in the area affected by severe storms and flooding during the period of May 25 to June 1, 2013.

Drought Disaster Spreads across Four States

USDA declares drought disaster in 19 additional counties in four states

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated a total of 19 counties in four states—Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and California—as agricultural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by the ongoing drought.

The latest designations, issued on June 26, include both primary and contiguous disaster areas.

  • Colorado: Archuleta, Mineral, Conejos, Hinsdale, La Plata,
    Rio Grande and Saguache counties.
  • New Mexico: Rio Arriba and San Juan counties.
  • California: San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside counties.
  • Texas: Reeves, Culberson, Jeff Davis, Loving, Pecos and Ward counties.

“Life-threatening” Heat Wave Developing in SW U.S.

Potentially deadly heat wave forecast for SE California, S Nevada and Most of Arizona

An extended period of Excessive Heat is forecast for Friday through Monday as a significant heat wave develops across much of the Southwest U.S. with record-setting and life-threatening heat forecast into next week, NWS reported.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect from 11 am PDT (11 am MST)  Friday to 8 pm PDT (8pm MST) Monday for portions of southern Nevada, southeast California and northwest Arizona for elevations below 6000 feet, said NWS.

  • Excessive Heat Warnings are also in effect in eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas.
  • Excessive Heat Watches and Heat Advisories have been issued for other areas. See below.
