Federal Disaster Declared in New Mexico due to Extreme Weather Damage  (DR-4197)

The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the the state of New Mexico in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding during the period of July 27 to August 5, 2014.

Areas worst affected by the disasters include Guadalupe, Rio Arriba, and San Miguel counties and the Pueblo of Acoma.

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments, said the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

Major wildfire threatens more than 1,000 homes, forces mass evacuations NE of Calif. state capital

The so-called Applegate Fire wildfire, which started as multiple fires along Interstate 80 near Applegate (about 65km NE of Sacramento) on Wednesday, forced the authorities to issue mass evacuation orders for multiple communities, according to Cal Fire.

Mandatory Evacuations are currently in effect for:

Pinecone Peak, Hummingbird Hill, Panorama, High View Ln, Margaret Ann, Montana, Arrora Nova, Easy Ln, Sunny Hill Dr, Sun Valley, Ponderosa to Poppy lane, Swanson Lane, Ponderosa Way to State Parks Line, Bridge Trail Way, Brushy Ridge, Hidden Ridge, Cross Road, East Ridge, Weaver Hill Lane, Weaver Hill Rd, Sundance Place, Dundee Ct, Douglas Drive, Dunvegan Dr, Heather Glen Drive, Hotchkiss Dr and Sinclair Ct.

Extreme weather and climate disasters destroy crops in 22 counties across five U.S. states

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared crop disasters for an additional  22 counties across five states—Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Utah and  Washington—due to the losses and damage caused by extreme weather and climatic events that have occurred during the 2014 crop year, so far.

Losses and damages  caused by heavy rains, flooding and hail that occurred from Aug. 22, 2014, through September 24, 2014

Losses and damages caused by severe freezes that occurred from December 4, 2013, through May 15, 2014

  • Colorado. Delta, Mesa, Montrose,  Garfield, Gunnison, Ouray, Pitkin and San Miguel counties.
  • Utah. Grand and San Juan counties.
Crop disasters caused by heavy rains, flooding, freeze and hail that occurred from  from December 7 through December 9, 2013
