A powerful tornado packing destructive winds of up to 213 km/he per tore along Sydney’s southern coast, ripping off roofs and leaving some residents with “nothing”on Wednesday, while some areas were pelted with golf ball-sized hail, said the Austrian Bureau of Meteorology.
Sydney suburbs were hit by multiple storm cells, spawning a tornado that struck the Kurnell area, damaging many houses and businesses and injuring the residents.
- A resident described the tornado as sounding “like a freight train.”
The wind speeds were the fastest ever registered in the Sydney area, a forecaster was quoted as saying.
