Lance Dodes, M.D. Letter To The Editors of the New York Times:

    […]
Mr. Trump’s speech and actions demonstrate an inability to tolerate views different from his own, leading to rage reactions. His words and behavior suggest a profound inability to empathize. Individuals with these traits distort reality to suit their psychological state, attacking facts and those who convey them (journalists, scientists).
    […]
We believe that the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president.

Psych profs call on Congress to ‘end the Trump presidency’

Five psychiatry professors recently signed an open letter urging Members of Congress to remove President Trump from office on the grounds that he is mentally unfit.

Three of the professors had previously expressed similar concerns in a letter to then-President Obama, and another is part of a group called “Duty to Warn” that seeks to publicize concerns about Trump’s mental health.

“Five psychiatry professors from various major universities are calling on Congress to declare President Donald Trump mentally unfit for office.”

Their mission began almost immediately after Trump’s election, when three professors of psychiatry—one from Harvard University and two from the University of California, San Francisco—sent a letter to former president Barack Obama expressing their “grave concern” for the “mental instability” of the President-Elect.

“Our Constitution has provisions for removing any president who is unable to discharge the duties of office.” Tweet This

Questioning “his fitness for the immense responsibilities of the office,” they suggested that Trump should “receive a full medical and neuropsychiatric evaluation by an impartial team of investigators” before assuming office.

A few months later, other psychology professors created a group called “Duty to Warn,” holding a conference at Yale University to make the case that Trump’s “dangerous mental illness” is a threat to America.

One of the professors involved in that group, Bandy Lee, subsequently did an interview with Chauncey DeVega during which she claimed that the United States is in a state of emergency because of Trump’s mental disabilities, saying she feels compelled to speak out about the matter because “many lives and our survival might be at stake.”

Lee, along with Columbia University psychiatry lecturer Robert Jay Lifton, M.D., has now joined forces with the three professors who signed the letter to Obama to write a new open letter, this time urging Congress to take steps to remove Trump from office.

The professors begin by referencing their previous public warnings about Trump’s “alarming psychological instability,” saying his “repeated failures to distinguish between reality and fantasy” and his “erratic responses to stress and crisis” have proven their point.

“The signs of the president’s unraveling are stark, and they are contributing to his inability to govern,” the letter continues, citing a litany of Trump’s supposed flights of insanity, including “his irrational, unilateral withdrawal from the world’s commitment to prevent catastrophic climate change” and “his vitriolic verbal assaults against anyone (especially any woman) who questions his actions or state of mind.”

Asserting that “the power of the presidency has accentuated Mr. Trump’s failings with devastating effects,” the professors contend that “his tenuous relationship to reality” has caused actual harm to the United States, and is therefore grounds for his removal from office.

“Our Constitution has provisions for removing any president who is unable to discharge the duties of office,” the letter concludes. “For the sake of our country and the world, we urge our elected representatives to summon their courage so that lawful steps can be taken to end the Trump presidency.”

The professors who wrote this letter, along with nearly two-dozen others, are currently working on a book called The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, which will purportedly attempt to answer the question, “what is wrong with him?”

    Is Trump crazy or deranged?
Judging by his tiny hands, could he be suffering from other genetic defects that negatively impact his brain causing his downright certifiable behavior?

Our experts haven’t examined him. However, Dr. Steven Beutler, a specialist in infectious diseases, who has spent over 30 years practicing medicine, said in February:

“Physicians like me have also taken notice of Trump’s bizarre, volatile behavior. Given our experience, we can’t help but wonder if there’s a medical diagnosis to be made. After all, many medical conditions exhibit their first symptoms in the form of psychiatric issues and personality changes. One condition in particular is notable for doing so: Neurosyphilis.”

Syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection, is sometimes referred to as “The Great Imposter” because of its ability to mimic many other conditions. It is commonly broken down into three stages. Primary syphilis is the most widely recognized form of the disease. It is characterized by the development of an ulcer, usually genital, a few weeks to a few months after sexual contact with an infected person…”

“The symptoms of neurosyphilis are protean, varying widely from one individual to another. Commonly recognized symptoms include irritability, loss of ability to concentrate, delusional thinking, and grandiosity. Memory, insight, and judgment can become impaired. Insomnia may occur. Visual problems may develop, including the inability of pupils to react to the light. This, along other ocular pathology, can result in photophobia, dimming of vision, and squinting. All of these things have been observed in Trump. Dementia, headaches, gait disturbances. and patchy hair loss can also be seen in later stages of syphilis.”

“We know Trump was potentially exposed to syphilis based on his own statements that he was sexually promiscuous in the 1980s, a period when syphilis cases were rapidly increasing in the U.S.”

    Bombing Syria: “Impeachable” Carve-Up Agenda
    http://accuracy.org/

The New York Times reports: “Russia Warns U.S. After Downing of Syrian Warplane.”

This afternoon at the National Press Club, Joint Chiefs Chairman and Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford was asked a question submitted by the Institute for Public Accuracy: “What’s the legal justification for targeting Syrian government forces?” He claimed: “We are there and have legal justification under the Authorization for Use of Military Force, we are prosecuting a campaign against ISIS and Al-Qaeda in Syria.” See video.

    FRANCIS BOYLE, fboyle at illinois.edu
Boyle is professor of international law at the University of Illinois College of Law. He said today: “Gen. Dunford is totally incorrect. The AUMF passed after 9/11 has indeed been used to justify the bombing campaign purporting to target ISIS, but it cannot possibly be used to justify targeting the Syrian government. Those attacks are in fact clearly illegal and impeachable.

“Many have put forward dubious arguments for impeaching Trump — or arguments that they would never apply to a Democratic president. Similarly, some threatened Obama with impeachment and are not doing so now that Trump is engaging in exactly the activity they threatened Obama about. Hypocrisies and hypocrites abound.

“If we care about the rule of law, the most striking thing about Trump is his flagrant violation of the War Powers Clause of the Constitution in this targeting of the Syrian government. Now, the U.S. has been violating international law in terms of its drone assassination program and various bombing campaigns, like the one purporting to target ISIS in Syria. Many of these activities are justified by attempts to invoke the Authorization for the Use of Military Force passed after the 9/11 attacks. A decade and a half after those attacks, that rationale is international legal nonsense, but it exists.

“In contrast, the targeting of forces of or allied with the Syrian government has no justification whatsoever. It is obviously impeachable — Obama’s people say they were afraid of impeachment for exactly this [see below]. But pro-war Democrats don’t raise it because it would put a constraint on the war-making capacities of the U.S. president — while they pretend to care about the rule of law.

“Many of the U.S. attacks on Syria have been around the so-called ‘de-confliction zones.’ These zones are de facto partitions of Syria in violation of its territorial sovereignty and political independence. This goes back at least to the Pentagon just after 9/11 telling retired General Wesley Clark that they wanted to target Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran.

“Israeli strategic interests are obviously served by a breakup of Syria; as is the case for much of the U.S. establishment. The Saudis are clearly on board. The Russians, rhetoric aside, are likely simply looking for some scraps. The big losers are the Syrians and most of the other people of the region.”

Earlier this year, Ben Rhodes, Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor and foreign policy speechwriter, told Politico that President Obama feared impeachment if he targeted the Syrian government:
    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/01/obama-foreign-policy-legacy-ben-rhodes-donald-trump-china-iran-214642

Rhodes: “The only country in the world that was prepared to join us [in attacking the Assad government] was France. And we had no domestic legal basis. We actually had Congress warning us against taking action without congressional authorization, which we interpreted as the president could face impeachment.”

Politico: “Really? Was the prospect of impeachment actually a factor in your conversations?”

Rhodes: “That was a factor. Go back and read the letters from Boehner, letters from the Republican members of Congress. They laid down markers that this would not be constitutional.”

House Speaker John Boehner wrote to Obama in 2013: “It is essential you address on what basis any use of force would be legally justified and how the justification comports with the exclusive authority of Congressional authorization under Article I of the Constitution.”

Boyle was featured on an Institute for Public Accuracy news release in 2013 along with former Rep. Paul Findley: “* Key Author of War Powers Act: ‘Obama has no Authority to Attack Syria’ * Impeachment.”
