World’s Extreme Temperatures, Precipitation Today

Mitribah (Kuwait) Records Max Daily High Temp. of 52.6°C (126.7°F) — Earth’s Hottest Today [UNCONFIRMED]

World’s hottest region was again the Persian Gulf area with at least 20 locations in six countries recording daily high temperatures above 50.0°C.

The coldest place was Dome Fuji (Antarctica) with a low of -72.4°C (-98.3°F).

Mass Evacuations Ordered in Japan

125,000 people in Akita Pref., Japan on evacuation order, or advisory following record rainfall

About 125,000 residents in Japan’s Akita Prefecture were ordered or advised to evacuate on Sunday as the risk of flooding and landslides increased due to record precipitation in the Tohoku region, according to local media reports.

City of Akita received a record 340mm of rainfall during a 24-hour period to 7am (local time) Sunday. It was also the most recorded precipitation on Earth for the day, with Bankura (India) a distant second at 318mm.

Extreme rains in southwestern Japan earlier this month left at least 28 people dead, and scores of others homeless.
