M 6.3 quake strikes near region’s seismic hot spot, Sarpol-e Zahab
- The quake has been designated “yellow” alert, with multiple fatalities expected, by USGS. [“Yellow alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. Some casualties and damage are possible and the impact should be relatively localized. Past yellow alerts have required a local or regional level response.”]
- Shaking assessed as “Severe .”
- At least one significant aftershock measuring 5.3mww has occurred as of this report.

Some 729 people have been injured in Kermanshah province, where the quake occurred. However, No fatalities, or major damage reported.
The quake was felt through most of neighboring Iraq, including in the capital Baghdad, about 180km away.
