UNAMI Stats for Armed Violence in Iraq
According to information collected by UNAMI, a minimum of 928 were killed (including 204 civilian police) a further 2109 were injured (including 338 civilian police) in ongoing armed violence in Iraq during July 2013.
In June 2013, 685 civilians were killed and 1610 were injured.
In May 2013, 963 civilians were killed and 2191 were injured.
In April 2013, 595 civilians were killed and 1481 were injured.
In March 2013, 229 civilians were killed and 853 were injured.
In February 2013, 418 civilians were killed and 704 were injured.
In January 2013, 319 civilians were killed and 960 were injured.
In December 2012, 230 civilians were killed and 655 were injured.
In November 2012, 445 civilians were killed and 1306 were injured.
ALL figures remain estimates until full investigation and analysis has been carried out, said UNAMI.
Drought-related stress affecting 80% of U.S. corn and soybeans, causing crops failure
The January-August 2012 was the warmest first 8 months of any year on record for the contiguous United States. The national temperature of 58.7°F (14.3°C) was 4.0°F above the 20th century average, and 1.0°F above the previous record warm in 2006, NOAA said.
Summer 2012 was the 3rd hottest summer on record for the contiguous United States since recordkeeping began 117 years ago. [ 2011 and 1936 had higher summer temperatures for the Lower 48.]

During the period, 33 states had record warm and an additional 12 states experienced top ten warm.
The average temperature for the Lower 48 between June and August was higher than 74°F (24.3°C), which is more than 2° F above the 20th century average.
“The average global temperature across land and oceans during July 2012 was 0.62°C (1.12°F) above the 20th century average of 15.8°C (60.4°F) and ranked as the fourth warmest July since records began in 1880. The previous three months—April, May, and June—also ranked among the top five warmest for their respective months. July 2012 marks the 36th consecutive July and 329th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average.” NOAA reported.
Explosive wildfire threatens thousands of homes in 2 Utah communities
About 10,000 people have been evacuated as a fast-moving wildfire pushed toward an explosives factory, officials said.
The so-called Dump fire has forced the authorities to put about 2,500 homes under mandatory evacuation order. The fire is raging in Kiowa Valley near a landfill for Saratoga Springs, a small town located about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
As of Friday evening, the fire had exploded to more than 4,000 acres, Inciweb reported.
The Dump fire is one of about 20 significant wildfires currently burning in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Colorado. High Park Fire. The massive wildfire located about 15 miles west of Fort Collins has grown to at least 70,000 acres, destroying or damaging hundreds of structures.
“Hwy 14 is now reclosing east of Gould. It has been confirmed that more structures are being lost to the fire in the Hewlett Gulch area and there are preliminary reports that some structures may be impacted in the 12th Filing of Glacier View. No more details are available at this time.” Inciweb reported.
The authorities have issued new evacuation orders for and PRE-evacuation notifications for half dozen additional communities, while mandatory evacuation orders remain in place across dozens of other areas.
A small army of 1,879 personnel with dozens of helicopters, dozers, engines, feller bunchers and water tenders are tackling the difficult fire.
As of 6/19/12 nearly 1.3 million gallons of water have been dropped on the fire, Inciweb reported.

Global. World’s 13 warmest years on record have all occurred since 1997, a period of 15 years. The heating has impacted the extent of Arctic sea ice which fell to its second lowest this year, with its volume being the lowest ever recorded.
The 2002-2011 period is the warmest decade on record (jointly with 2001-2010), some 0.46°C above the long-term average.
Average global temperatures this year so far are the 10th highest on record and are higher than all previous years with a La Niña event, which has a relative cooling influence, WMO reported.
“Our role is to provide the scientific knowledge to inform action by decision makers,” said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud in a press release.
“Our science is solid and it proves unequivocally that the world is warming and that this warming is due to human activities,” he added.
“Surface air temperatures were above the long-term average in 2011 over most land areas of the world. The largest departures from average were over Russia, especially in northern Russia where January-October temperatures were about 4°C above average in places,” the WMO report said.
“Concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have reached new highs. They are very rapidly approaching levels consistent with a 2-2.4 degree Centigrade rise in average global temperatures which scientists believe could trigger far reaching and irreversible changes in our Earth, biosphere and oceans.” WMO’s Jarraud said.
