Google “Fact-Checking Tool” Worse Than Censorship –French Activist

Internet Monopolist, Now Arbiter of Truth?

Google’s so-called “fact-checking tool” is reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984, and is “worse than censorship,” according to Claude Chollet, the president of the Observatory of Journalists and Media Resources, who spoke to Sputnik News on Monday.

“It’s worse than censorship. In fact, this is Orwell’s ‘1984’ with its Ministry of Truth, which says what is good and what’s bad. I believe that we are going straight to the point of total censorship,” Chollet said.

Reuters News Police Removes Comment on Japan’s Corrupt Politics

Posted by feww on October 20, 2014

Censoring comments reveals Reuters want of journalistic integrity

A comment concerning the corrupt state of politics in Japan, posted at reuters.com by one of our readers, was disallowed/ removed by Reuters news police.

The reader contended, and we’ve confirmed, that the comment contained original quotes from a book written by a prominent Japanese businessman, humanitarian and author, Toshihiko Abe, who was a former Director of European and American Operations at Casio Ltd.

The book, titled “Japan’s Hidden Face: A Call for Radical Change In Japanese Society & Commerce,” published by BainBridge Books, Philadelphia, is available in the United States  and Japan

The comment, which was submitted to Reuters and copied to Fire-Earth, is as follows:

In his book, “Japan’s Hidden Face,” the prominent Japanese businessman and author Toshihiko Abe says:

In Japan, although the prime minister is “the leader of the nation,” it’s “someone else sitting behind the scene [who] holds the real power. He can have the Diet designate whomever he wants to be prime minister, and manipulate him as he like, though he has no legal ground to do so at all. His power simply derives from money. This makes all LDP leaders absorbed in a money game, rather than working out good policies for the people. For the last [fifty] years, politicians, government officials and businessmen have built up a triangle of interests.” [P177]

“[The Boss] can simply replace his robot prime minister when necessary.” [page 183]

“Businesses provide ministers and government officials with positions in private companies after retirement. If government officials are faithful to LDP rulers, an easy and comfortable life is guaranteed for the rest of their lives.” [page 184]

[Library of Congress Catalog Card #98-70339]

This begs the question, at whose behest did Reuters news police remove the highly informative material that has previously been published by a respectable publisher?

First Amendment Protects Censorship by Search Engines: Manhattan Judge

Posted by feww on March 29, 2014

Search engines’ license to censor Internet, protecting vast commercial interests and political influence, makes NSA snooping look like Candy Crush

“The First Amendment protects Baidu’s right to advocate for systems of government other than democracy [in China or the U.S.] just as surely as it protects plaintiffs’ rights to advocate for democracy.”

U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman sitting in Manhattan (!) has dismissed a lawsuit against Baidu, the Chinese Internet Goliath, which the plaintiff, a group of pro-democracy activists, argued suppresses political speech on China’s most widely used search engine.

The plaintiff, eight New York writers and video producers, had argued that Baidu search engine algorithms, created at the behest of Chinese government, blocks users in the United States from viewing articles, videos and other information critical of  China’s suppression of democracy.

What the judge conveniently ignores in his judgment is the monopoly power of a major search engine over the flow of information.

Add this license for Internet censorship to Google’s near monopoly over the flow of information in the U.S. and much of the world,  and multiply the result by their efforts to protect their vast commercial interests and political influence …

Google and a handful of other Internet Goliaths bend the truth like black holes do light.

[Baidu is the fifth-most trafficked site in the world with more than 500 million regular users in China and a growing following in the US, topped only by  Yahoo, Google’s YouTube, Facebook and Google, according to an Internet traffic monitor. Editor.]

Never Mind the Frigging Environment, Fracking Must GO ON!

Posted by feww on December 4, 2013

Don’t “short-circuit America’s absolute explosion in energy opportunity” —USCC President Donohue

An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study on fracking, due to be released in 2014, could be used to justify clamping down on the environmentally disastrous technique, which has caused a surge in U.S. oil and natural gas production, said the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC) President Thomas Donohue.

“This could short-circuit America’s absolute explosion in energy opportunity that is creating millions of jobs,” he told business leaders, warning the rules were hurting the economy and “undermining freedom.”

The counter argument offered by critics of fracking, including numerous environmentalists, is that a major shift to alternative energy sources would create at least twice as many permanent jobs as the fickle fracking industry could ever offer.

The major concern with shale gas drilling is the chemicals used in the process. Because the federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 exempted hydraulic fracturing from regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act, shale gas drillers don’t have to disclose what chemicals they use.”  Gas drilling companies maintain that the gas drilling technique they use, called hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” is safe. However, based on observation of the drinking water in numerous drilling areas, and the fate of many people who live near the drilling rigs, who are afflicted with serious health conditions, we know that fracking contaminates groundwater with dangerous chemicals.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a messy technique that involves forcing large volumes of pressurized chemical fluids and sand deep underground to crack rocks and free trapped oil and natural gas.

“Many believe it will be the rationalization of new federal fracking regulations before the end of this administration,” said Donohue, reported Reuters.

900 DAYS LEFT

Posted by feww on September 24, 2013

Chances are homo sapiens sapiens won’t get their act together in 900 days!!

Unlike lemmings, which seemingly have a self-implemented population-density management plan, the “mass suicide” of homo ignarus, stemming from their pathological death wish and guaranteed by their unsustainable life styles, was in the making for quite some time…

SYMBOLIC COUNTDOWN: 900 Days Left

FIRE-EARTH Climate Models show climate change forcings and feedbacks switching global weather patterns onto “primordial tracks.”

FIRE-EARTH Population Models show mass die-offs resulting from human impact and the planetary response to the anthropogenic assault could occur as early as 2016.

The Chances Are

…  the homo ignarus attempted to silence everyone through fear-mongering, mass spying and blanket censorship… and might well have succeeded… had they not ran out of time…
