M5.1 earthquake strikes 100km SSE of Sendai, Japan

Centered at 30.8N, 131.1E the quake struck at a depth of about 10km and was felt across the southern tip of Kyushu island, according to Japan’s weather agency.

At the Sendai earthquake monitoring station, the quake registered 3 on Japan’s Seismic Intensity Scale (1 to 7).

  • M5.2, 145km E of Chichi-shima, Japan, 2015-08-17 at 00:45:42UTC depth=7.4km

Deep earthquake occurs WNW of Chichi-shima, Japan

Centered at 27.7N, 140.3E the quake occurred at a depth of about 480km at 21:19 JST (UTC + 9:00 hours) on Tuesday, according to Japan weather agency.

The epicenter was located about 900km south of Tokyo, Japan.

Strong Earthquake Measuring up to 6.2Mw Strikes Izu Islands, Japan Region

The quake, centered at 29.8N, 141.6E,  struck Torishima Kinkai region at a depth of about 50km on Monday, 03 May 2010 19:28 JST (10:28UTC), Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported.

Tsunami Status

JMA did NOT issue any tsunami warnings, advisory or watch, probably due to the fact that the shock occurred deep below the ocean surface.

  • 300 km (190 miles) NNW of Chichi-shima, Bonin Islands, Japan
  • 405 km (250 miles) SSE of Hachijo-jima, Izu Islands, Japan
  • 535 km (335 miles) N of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, Japan
  • 685 km (425 miles) S of TOKYO, Japan

    1. More shocks, possibly stronger than this quake, could strike Japan Region as a result of a new wave of seismic activity in the region.
