Significant aftershocks continue to strike Chile Coast

Dozens of aftershocks measuring ≥ 5.0Mw have struck the Chilean coast following the 8.3Mw mainshock that struck at 22:54:33UTC on Wednesday.

The quakes have killed at least a dozen people, and forced more than a million people out of their homes. However, there were no reliable reports of the number of injuries or extent of property damage, as of posting.

The ensuing tsunami that followed the mainshock caused extensive flooding in multiple coastal towns including the port city of Coquimbo, which was hit by waves of up to 4.5 meters and sustained significant damage, officials told reporters.
