Mississippi Severe Storms and Flooding (DR-4268)

Incident period: Beginning March 09, 2016 and continuing
Major Disaster Declaration declared on March 25, 2016

The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the state of Mississippi in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding beginning on March 9, 2016, and continuing.

Areas that have sustained severe damage include the counties of Bolivar, Coahoma, and Washington.

Federal funding has also been made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide, said the official statement.

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments, said the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the area affected by the severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 22-23, 2016.

Areas that have sustained severe damage include the following 23 counties: Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Somerset, Westmoreland, and York.

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments, said the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

Federal funding has also been made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, said the official report.

Louisiana Disaster Declaration Expanded

Louisiana disaster declaration to include 16 additional parishes

The White House has approved Louisiana governor’s request to expand the disaster declaration to include 16 additional parishes that have been devastated by destructive weather events.

Seven parishes in Louisiana were declared major disaster areas by the White House on Sunday including Bossier, Claiborne, Grant, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland and Webster parishes.

However, due to worsening damage caused by the severe storms and historic flooding, thousands of additional homes and businesses have sustained damage in more parishes.

The additional parishes are Beauregard, Bienville, Caddo, Caldwell, DeSoto, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Natchitoches, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Union, Vernon, Washington, West Carroll, and Winn.

3 More Arkansas Counties Declared Disaster Areas

Meanwhile, three additional Arkansas counties have been declared disaster areas by Gov. Hutchinson.

The addition of Columbia, Prairie, and Scott counties brings the total to 16.

Record rainfall and sever flooding inundated the state last week, causing substantial damage across the state, especially in the southeast.

The 16 counties so far declared disaster areas include Arkansas, Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Columbia, Desha, Drew, Jefferson, Lincoln, Monroe, Ouachita, Phillips, Prairie and Scott.

The destructive weather events—severe storms and flooding— caused substantial damage across the state, especially in Baker, Carroll, Chattahoochee, Crawford, Dade, Decatur, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Gilmer, Greene, Haralson, Harris, Jeff Davis, Lamar, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Montgomery, Morgan, Muscogee, Newton, Oglethorpe, Pickens, Stewart, Talbot, Taliaferro, Taylor, Towns, Troup, Upson, Webster, and Wilkes counties.

Federal funding is also being made available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the entire the entire State of Georgia.

The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Arkansas in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding during the period of December 26, 2015 to January 22, 2016.

The areas that were hardest hit by the destructive weather events include Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Faulkner, Jackson, Jefferson, Lee, Little River, Perry, Sebastian, and Sevier counties.

Additionally, federal funding has also been made available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the destructive weather events in Benton, Boone, Bradley, Calhoun, Carroll, Clay, Crawford, Dallas, Drew, Franklin, Greene, Independence, Izard, Lawrence, Little River, Logan, Madison, Marion, Mississippi, Montgomery, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Polk, Randolph, Scott, Searcy, Stone, Washington, White, Woodruff, and Yell counties.
