Centered at 52.443°N, 169.597°W the quake struck at a depth of about 27.1 km, reported USGS/EHP.
The event was followed by at least a dozen significant aftershocks, as of posting.

UPDATE at 04:25UTC: The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center has now lifted the Tsunami Warning that was issued earlier.
The Tsunami Warning continues in effect for the coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Dutch Harbor) to Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak).
This message is for Information Only for coastal areas of California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the California-Mexico border to Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Dutch Harbor).

Large swarms of low to medium strength quakes have been striking Alaska since early February.
The current seismicity in the region could translate into enhanced volcanism in the region or very large eruptions from Alaska’s more active volcanoes.
Both the ongoing seismicity and the prospect of enhanced volcanic activity in Alaska bode ill for the oil companies that are operating in the face of the fragile ecosystems in the region.

Piton de la Fournaise. The massive Piton de la Fournaise on the island of Réunion is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. It is seen here in 1977 with a fresh black lava flow descending the outer NE flank of the shield volcano to the sea. An unvegetated summit lava shield (upper left) was constructed within an 8-km-wide caldera that is breached to the sea. Its sloping northern rim is marked by the diagonal vegetation line at the left. More than 150 eruptions have occurred since the 17th century, mostly from vents within the caldera. (Caption:Global Volcanism Program ). Recent activity at the Kilauea volcano has increased atmospheric levels of sulfur dioxide in the districts of Kau and Puna, Hawaii, resulting in a spike of sulfur of 9 parts per million, which is considered to be extremely high. (Source)
