Growing Wealth Inequality a Major Driver of Global Collapse

[Less than] one percent of the world population owns [more than] half of global wealth, according to the latest edition of the Global Wealth Report published by Credit Suisse.

Their estimates suggest the richest 10% of adult population own 88% of all wealth, with the top 1% accounting for half of all global assets, while the lower half of the world population collectively own less than 1% of the wealth.

Household Wealth, 2015
World: 250,145 (USD bn)
North America: 92,806
Europe: 75,059
Asia-Pacific: 45,958
China: 22,817
Latin America: 7,461
India: 3,447
Africa: 2,596
Source: James Davies, Rodrigo Lluberas and Anthony Shorrocks, Credit Suisse Global Wealth Databook 2015

Regional Wealth

North America and Europe together own 67% of the total wealth, but account for only 18% of the adult population.

Special Alliance

Some 20,247 of the world’s millionaires, or more than 60 percent of the total, are from the “Five Eyes,” the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.

Wealth and Super Wealthy

Report estimates that worldwide there are

  • 123,800 UHNW individuals (their ultra high net worth exceeds USD 50 million) including
    • 44,900 each worth at least USD 100 million, and
    • 4,500 with assets above USD 500 million.
  • 33.6 million HNW (high net worth individuals with USD 1 mn to USD 50 m) of whom
    • 29.8 million fall within the USD 1–5 million
    • 2.5 million adults worth between USD 5 mn  and 10 mn, and
    • 1.3 million have assets in the USD 10–50 mn range

The 2015 Forbes Billionaires List

According to the Forbes Rich List 2015, there were 1,826 individuals each worth at least USD1 bn (up from 1,645 in March 2014), the highest number they’ve ever recorded, with an aggregate net worth of $7.05 trillion, up from $6.4 trillion a year ago.

80 richest people wealthier than the bottom half of world population

The 80 richest people in the world have doubled their wealth in nominal terms in the 6 year-period between 2009 and 2014, while the wealth of the bottom 50% has decreased over the same period.

These 80 individuals have more wealth (more than USD1.9 bn) than the combined wealth of the bottom 50% of the global population (more than 3.5 billion people).

Poverty

The United States has the second highest relative child poverty rates in the developed world, according to a 2013 UNICEF report.

The Greed

The greed to create more financial wealth is rapidly “asset-stripping” the planet. It’s directly proportional to the rate at which the global climate is being destabilized and the ecosystems destroyed.

Critical Overload Threatens Planetary Life Support Systems

Posted by feww on July 6, 2013

Index of Human Impact on Nature (HIoN) skyrockets to a new high

The FIRE-EARTH/CASF Index of Human Impact on Nature (HIoN), an index for calculating the human impact on the planetary life support systems, climbed to a critically high level of 323 on July 1, 2013. In other words, the anthropogenic impact on the living environment exceeded 3.23 times the planet’s diminishing carrying capacity.

  • The index is rising exponentially.
  • HIoN has risen 38 points, or more than 13 percent, since July 2012 when it reached 285.
  • The index was less than 80 in 1960, and rose to about 100 in 1980.

“According to HIoN projections, our cities and population centers could become almost entirely unsustainable by as early as 2015.”

Tidal Surge of Global Change 26 Times Faster in 21st Century: FIRE-EARTH

FIRE-EARTH Models show the rate of global change has intensified by a factor of at least 26 in the last decade compared with the 1960s.

FIRE-EARTH defines ‘global change’ as the deterioration in the planet’s life-support capacity, caused by large-scale anthropogenic impact, which is leading to a total collapse.

Korean War Would Accelerate Global Collapse

Posted by feww on March 30, 2013

North Korea enters ‘state of war’ against South

North Korea says it has entered a “state of war” against its southern neighbor, warning that any issues between the two countries will be dealt with in a “wartime manner,” reports said.

North Korea has warned that any military provocation near the land or sea border of the two sides would result “in a full-scale conflict and a nuclear war,” said a report.

Pyongyang has been repeatedly threatening to attack the South and U.S. military bases in the region since the beginning of March.

Tens of thousands of North Koreans expressed support for their leader’s threat of a military strike against the United States during a massive rally held on Friday.

The official North Korean Central News Agency [KCNA] said the leader has put the country’s rocket units on standby, after an emergency meeting with the top military commanders on Friday.

“The time has come to settle accounts with the U.S. imperialists in view of the prevailing situation.” Kim Jong Un was quoted as saying.

followed flights by nuclear-capable B-2 Spirit, aka Stealth Bombers, over an island off the coast of the Korean peninsula on Thursday, as part of ongoing US military drills with South Korea.

South Korea had earlier confirmed the notification by Pyongyang that DPRK had cut off the military communications hotline on March 27, reports said.

“Tensions have been running high on the Korean Peninsula since the DPRK conducted its third nuclear test on Feb. 12 as a countermeasure against the joint military drills of the United States and South Korea,” said a report.

Russian Foreign Minister said Russia was concerned about increased military activity around North Korea, an apparent reference to the US – SK military drills, warning that a buildup of tensions on the Korean peninsula could “spiral into a vicious cycle.”
