– Japan Report # 23 –

What will it take to teach Japan’s ruling mob a lasting lesson?

Today is the 72nd anniversary of Hiroshima atom bomb. Historians, however, assert the fire-bombing of Tokyo was deadlier than either of Hiroshima, or Nagasaki bombing.

Did You Grow Up Feeling Guilty about Hiroshima Bombing?

Posted by feww on August 5, 2015

Submitted by a reader [Edited by a moderator, strong language removed. PTW]

The 70th anniversary of victory against Japanese Aggression and the end of WWII

I grew up feeling guilty that my grandparents generation had used weapons of mass destruction indiscriminately against “civilians.”

Then I earned about the atrocities committed by the Japanese military [and civilians that fully supported the dwarf emperors war efforts] against the Chinese, Koreans,Indians, Filipinos, Malayans, Indonesians, Americans, British, Soviets…

WWII, the biggest war in history, involved more than 60 countries and regions, and affected some 2 billion people, about 80 percent of the world’s population at that time. Between 70 to 85 million people were killed.

China: Japan invaded northeast China in September 1931, however the full-scale invasion of China started on July 7, 1937, after a crucial access point to Beijing, the Lugou Bridge, was attacked by Japanese troops. Chinese forces killed, wounded and captured over 1.5 million Japanese troops in the Anti-Japanese War,” said a report.

More than 35 million Chinese were killed or injured in the anti-Japanese war, one-third of all who fell or were injured during WWII, according to incomplete official statistics. In the Nanjing Massacre of December 1937 alone, Japanese troops slaughtered at least 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers.”

The Pacific War

More than 32 million people including 26 million civilians were killed in the Pacific War.

China: Japan invaded northeast China in September 1931, however the full-scale invasion of China started on July 7, 1937, after a crucial access point to Beijing, the Lugou Bridge, was attacked by Japanese troops. “Chinese forces killed, wounded and captured over 1.5 million Japanese troops in the Anti-Japanese War,” said a report.

Manila massacre: 100,000 to 500,000 civilians killed, most of whom were massacred by Japanese forces.

No record of a single person in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo or anywhere else in Japan ever raising objection to the massacres.

The Bataan Death March: About 1,600 Americans, and up to 20,000 Filipino died as a result of Japanese war crime.

Historians and governments of some countries hold Japanese military forces, namely the Imperial Japanese Army, the Imperial Japanese Navy, and the Imperial Japanese family, especially [the dwarf] Emperor Hirohito, responsible for killings and other crimes committed against millions of civilians and prisoners of war.

Some members of the Liberal Democratic Party in the Japanese government such as former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi and current Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have prayed at the Yasukuni Shrine, which includes convicted Class A war criminals in its honored war dead. Some Japanese history textbooks only offer brief references to the various war crimes, and members of the Liberal Democratic Party such as Shinzo Abe have denied some of the atrocities such as government involvement in abducting women to serve as “comfort women” (involuntary prostitutes).

This scorched earth strategy, sanctioned by the dwarf emperor Hirohito himself, directed Japanese forces to “Kill All, Burn All, and Loot All.” Additionally, captured Allied servicemen and civilians were massacred in various incidents, including:

Not a single person in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo or anywhere else in Japan raised any objection to these massacres, while they were being committed.

Human experimentation and biological warfare

According to the 2002 International Symposium on the Crimes of Bacteriological Warfare, the Imperial Japanese Army germ warfare and human experiments killed about 580,000. [Daniel Barenblatt, A Plague upon Humanity, 2004, p.xii, 173.]

Japanese Massacre of Indonesians in Mandor Commemorated

“Japanese occupiers massacred more than 21,000 people, including many women and children, near Pontianak between April 23, 1943 to June 28, 1944.”

What’s different today?

Only names, places and some of the faces!

Below: 32 million people lost their lives so that the cockroach could creep into the war criminals shrine.

A Shinto priest (right) leads Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (center) as he visits the controversial Yasukuni war shrine in Tokyo, on Dec 26, 2013, in a move Beijing condemned as “absolutely unacceptable”. The United States is “disappointed” by Mr Abe’s visit to the Yasukuni war shrine, which will raise regional tensions, its embassy in Tokyo said on Thursday, Dec 26, 2013. How can you stop the Japanese from committing another round of atrocities against their neighbors and rest of the world?

You decide!

Thousands of tremors recorded near Bárðarbunga volcano

Seismic activity continues around the Bárðarbunga volcano in the northwestern part of Vatnajökull glacier, with about 5,000 tremors recorded since Saturday. The largest quake so far measured 3.0Mw, officials said.

The seismicity is said to be the most intense ever recorded in the area. Most of the quakes are occurring at depths of 5 – 10km, said the Iceland Met Office.

Fearing a major eruption, authorities have evacuated an area north of the volcano, where severe flooding could occur as a result of the ice cap of the Vatnajökull glacier melting.

Dozens killed in Hiroshima landslides

An extreme rain event, said to be the equivalent of a month’s worth of rain, unleashed severe flooding and landslides killing at least 40 people in the outskirts of the Hiroshima in western Japan. About a dozen others are reported missing, and the death toll is expected to rise, police said.

A record 217mm of rain fell in just 3 hours in the northern part of the city, more than the average for the entire month of August, the local media reported.

The city’s fire department have reportedly admitted to their own incompetence for the large number of casualties: “Something went wrong in our analysis (of the emergency) … We failed to issue an evacuation advisory ahead of the disaster. Looking back, … this is something we need to amend.”

“In 1999, Hiroshima City and nearby Kure City were hit by similar landslides which killed more than 30 people,” said a report.

Meantime, flooding and mudslides have destroyed or damaged more than 2,100 homes and other buildings in Fukuchiyama City in Kyoto Prefecture, and Tanba City in neighboring Hyogo Prefecture in the Kansai region west of Honshu island.

Thousands of gallons of oil spills from Duke Energy coal plant into Ohio River

At least 5,000 gallons of fuel oil spilled into Ohio River from a 60-year-old power plant owned by Duke Energy near Cincinnati, said the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Ohio River stretches more than 1,500km from Pennsylvania to Illinois and provides drinking water for at least 3 million people, said the Ohio River Foundation (ORF).

It is also a major artery for shipping agricultural produce by barge from the eastern United States to export terminals on the Gulf Coast.

The Ohio River is now the worst toxic water dump in the U.S., said ORF.

  • Polluters dumped 31 million pounds of toxic chemicals into Ohio River in 2007, making it the most toxic river in the U.S.
  • Violations of the Clean Water Act are going unprosecuted.
  • About half of lakes and reservoirs are contaminated above EPA “safe levels,” said ORF.

“Amazingly, in some cases this is permitted pollution; however, the number of permit violations appears to be growing.”

Radiation Levels at Fukushima Hugely Underestimated: TEPCO

“NEVER-ENDING” NUCLEAR DISASTER
.

TEPCO admits serious flaws in its Fukushima radiation readings

The operator of the nuked Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant said it will review its radiation data because their initial readings may be seriously flawed.

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) says it detected radiation levels of 5 million becquerels per liter of radioactive strontium in groundwater samples collected last July from one of its wells near the ocean.

The radioactivity level is more than 160,000 times the regulatory maximum  for radioactive wastewater allowed to be released into the sea.

from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) holding hands singing kumbaya at Fukushima, December 2013. “The team has praised Japan for making progress in stabilizing the Fukushima nuclear plant,” reported BBC. Image IAEA handout via Reuters/BBC.

Based on the latest admission, TEPCO now estimates with that level of radioactive strontium present, the count for beta-emitting radioactive substances must be 10 million becquerels per liter, or 11 times their initial estimate of 900,000 becquerels per liter, reported NHK.

The plant operator attributes the error to incorrect measuring methods that were in place until last October.

TEPCO says it will review other data acquired using the old, improper method, including the radiation level of more than 300 tons of toxic waste water that leaked from a storage tank in August 2013.

The initial reading for the leaked radioactive water showed up to 80-million becquerels per liter of beta ray-emitting substances, including strontium, said the report.

2. Average background radiation in the US is about 3 mS/yr.]

3. The average annual radiation dose per person in the U.S. is currently 620 millirem (6.2 mSv), according to EPA. “Half of our average dose comes from natural background sources: cosmic radiation from space, naturally occurring radioactive minerals in the ground and in your body, and from the radioactive gases radon and thoron, which are created when other naturally occurring elements undergo radioactive decay. Another 48 percent of our dose comes from medical diagnostics and treatments.”

Look for the Cracks!

ONGOING NUCLEAR DISASTER
.

Fukushima Farce: Look for the cracks and ya shall find them at the and of the brook!

A day or so after FIRE-EARTH Editor suggested radioactive leaks inside the No. 3 reactor building most probably came from cracks in the containment vessel, the plant operator TEPCO says they suspect the leak originates from around an opening in the containment vessel which connects to a steam pipe.

TEPCO says the area around the opening had previously been sealed with resin, but the substance likely deteriorated after being exposed to the heat from the melted fuel and salt from sea water poured into the vessels immediately after the disaster to cool down the chamber.

Technicians are now planning to locate the racks in the containment vessel and seal them, TEPCO said. [DO NOT use the same type of resin!!! Editor.]

Once they have sealed the cracks, they can refill the vessel with water and remove the melted fuel, at least in theory.

However, they cannot enter the reactor building without being exposed to cosmic levels of radiation.

Fukushima Potentially More Disastrous Than Hiroshima

Radioactivity spikes 6,500 times at Fukushima: TEPCO

The crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant’s operator, TEPCO, says it detected a sharp rise in radioactivity in a well near a storage tank on Thursday, NHK reported.

On Thursday, workers detected 400,000 becquerels per liter of beta ray-emitting radioactive substances, including strontium, at a well  near the tank that  leaked more than 300 tons of contaminated water in August, TEPCO said.

The radioactivity level was 6,500 times higher than the readings taken the previous day.

“The well was dug to monitor the impact of the leakage and is located at about 10 meters from the tank,” the report said.

TEPCO believes the latest findings are indicative of ground water contamination, because radioactive substances like as strontium are transferred relatively slowly.

Given the extent of Fukushima catastrophe, the operator’s inability to deal with the ever-worsening disasters at the site and Japanese government’s “wait-and-see” attitude, to put it mildly, the blog Moderators believe the situation at the disaster-stricken plant could potentially become as bad, if not worse than the aftermath of Hiroshima atom bomb.

Fukushima Fatal Farce Turns Deadlier

Posted by feww on September 1, 2013

Radiation levels near Fukushima ’18 times higher’ than reported: TEPCO

Readings taken near a leaking tank at the nuked Fukushima plant on Saturday showed radiation levels were high enough to prove lethal within about 4 hours of exposure, the plant operator said.

The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) had originally reported the radiation level near the tank was about 100 millisieverts an hour.

Now, the company says the equipment used for the earlier recording could only read up to 100 millisieverts (mSv).

The new reading, using more sensitive Geiger counters, showed levels of about 1,800 mSv per hour.

Studies of the 1945 atomic bombing at Hiroshima and Nagasaki show that 100 percent of victims whose bodies were exposed to 6,000 mSv (600,000 millirems) died from radiation. About 50 percent of victims who received 4,500 mSv (450,000 millirems) of radiation also died.

TEPCO said it had recorded radiation of 230 mSv an hour at a second tank, which was emitting 70 mSv in July. The company said it had also discovered two additional leaks: a third storage tank emitting 70 mSv an hour; and a pipe connecting two other tanks measuring 230 mSv.

The 2011 triple meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi NPP forced more than 160,000 people to abandon their homes, turning dozens of communities into ghost towns.

The Following Announcements Was Released by TEPCO

News related to TEPCO (Sep 01,2013)
Explanation regarding the high radiation (maximum 1,800 mSv) found at tanks in Fukushima Daiichi NPS on August 31, 2013

We deeply apologize for the great anxiety and inconvenience caused by the recent contaminated water issues at the Fukushima Daiichi NPS, which affects the residents near the power station and the broader society.

Regarding the high radiation (maximum 1,800 mSv) found at tanks in Fukushima Daiichi NPS on August 31, some articles reported that “by simple calculation, if a person is exposed this much radiation amount for four hours continuously, that would lead to death” or “it takes only one minute to reach the annual radiation exposure limit for workers,” etc. We would like to explain more about the 1,800 mSv.

We used measuring equipment that measures both beta radiation and gamma radiation. The 1,800 mSv is the total amount of beta radiation and gamma radiation. Gamma radiation was 1 mSv and most of the 1,800 mSv was beta radiation.

Since 1,800 mSv is approximately 3.5 times higher than the control level of equivalent dose for skin which is 500 mSv/year, we should carefully control radiation exposure. Since beta radiation travels only a short distance, radiation level decreases considerably if we keep a distance. Moreover, since beta radiation is weak and can be blocked by a thin metal sheet such as aluminum, we think that we can control radiation exposure by using proper equipments and cloths.

Additionally, although 1,800 mSv was detected at 5 cm above the floor, the radiation level of 50 cm above the floor was 15 mSv. Thus, 1,800 mSv does not mean the radiation level of the whole nearby place.

Some articles reported that “if a person is exposed this much radiation amount for four hours continuously, that would lead to death” comparing with the radiation level that would result in death (7,000 mSv), or “it takes only one minute to reach the annual radiation exposure limit for workers” comparing with the annual radiation exposure limit for workers (50 mSv). However, we believe that simply comparing the 1,800 mSv with those standard levels is not proper, since the standard levels are accumulation of effective dose (not equivalent dose) that express effects for whole body.

We will find out the cause of this issue and make proper counter measures immediately, and continue to make every effort to secure safety of workers.

45,000 People Urged to Evacuate amid Japan ERE

Posted by feww on August 25, 2013

Extreme Rain Events (ERE) Deluge Shimane Prefecture, W.  Japan

Record 470mm of rain has fallen in parts of Shimane Prefecture, western Japan, since Friday. The city of Gotsu received up to 80mm of rain per hour on Saturday, prompting the country’s weather agency (JMA) to urge tens of thousands of residents in the area to evacuate and “take immediate action to protect life.”

The record rainfall was more than twice the average for the whole of August. The rain is expected to reach 250 mm in a 24-hour period through Sunday in the Chugoku area and northern Kyushu, according to JMA.

Local authorities in Shimane and neighboring Yamaguchi Prefecture have urged more than 45,000 people to evacuate due to fear of landslides and overflowing rivers, said NHK.

The heavy rains have damaged the railroads facilities and toppled several buildings in the area.

“Part of a railway bridge was washed away in Kawamoto Town, Shimane, shutting down a route to neighboring Hiroshima Prefecture,” said NHK.
