Major Disaster Declared for New Hampshire

New Hampshire Declared Federal Disaster Area

New Hampshire Severe Winter Storm and Snowstorm (DR-4209)

The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the State of New Hampshire and  in the areas affected by the severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 26-28, 2015.

Most of the damage caused by the severe winter storm and snowstorm in the “Granite State” occurred  in the counties of Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Strafford.

The Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

Extreme Weather and Climate Disasters Destroy Crops in 27 Counties across 4 States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has declared multiple crop disasters for an additional  27 counties in four states—New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont—due to the losses and damage caused by extreme weather and climatic events that have occurred during the 2014 crop year, so far.

Designation #1

Damages and losses caused by extreme temperature fluctuations, excessive cold, frosts, freezes and hail that occurred from Dec. 1, 2013, through April 30, 2014

• New Hampshire. Belknap, Grafton, Rockingham, Carroll, Hillsborough, Strafford, Cheshire, Merrimack, Sullivan and Coos counties.
• Maine. Oxford and York counties.
• Massachusetts. Essex, Franklin, Middlesex and Worcester counties.
• Vermont. Caledonia, Essex, Orange, Windham and Windsor counties.

Designation #2

Damages and losses caused by extreme fluctuations, freeze and hail that occurred on May 22 through May 25, 2014

• New Hampshire. Cheshire, Hillsborough and Merrimack counties.
• Massachusetts. Essex, Middlesex and Worcester counties.

Crop Disasters 2014

Beginning January 10, 2014 USDA has declared crop disasters in at least 2,620 counties across 41 states. Most of those designations are due to the drought.

Those states are

Crop disasters declared in 43 counties due to drought, flash flooding, flooding, excessive heat, excessive rain, lightning, high wind…

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated ten counties in two states—Maine and New Hampshire—as crop disaster areas due to losses caused by flash flooding, flooding, excessive heat, excessive rain, lightning and high wind that occurred April 1 – October 31, 2013.
Those counties are

• Maine: Androscoggin, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln and York counties.

• New Hampshire: Carroll and Coos counties.

Excessive Moisture and Heat

USDA has designated a total of eight counties in Massachusetts and Connecticut as crop disaster areas due to losses caused by excessive moisture and heat that occurred during the 2013 crop year.

Those counties are

• Massachusetts: Hampden, Hampshire, Berkshire, Franklin and Worcester counties.

• Connecticut: Hartford, Litchfield and Tolland counties.

Crop Disaster Declared for 25 Counties in Four States due to Drought

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated 25 counties in four states as crop disaster areas due to the recent drought. The disaster designations are for the states of California, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado.

• The disaster designation areas in California are Del Norte, Humboldt and Siskiyou counties.

• Oregon: Curry and Josephine counties.

• New Mexico:  DeBaca, Harding, Rio Arriba, Taos, Chaves, Los Alamos, Roosevelt, San Miguel, Colfax, Mora, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Guadalupe, Quay, San Juan, Union and  Lincoln counties.

• Colorado: Archuleta, Conejos and Costilla counties.

22 Counties across four states declared crop disaster areas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated 22  counties in four states as agricultural disaster areas due to losses caused by excessive rains and flooding that began May 5, 2013, and continues.

The disaster areas are

Vermont: Addison, Chittenden, Grand Isle, Rutland, Bennington, Essex, Orange, Caledonia, Franklin, Orleans, Windham, Washington, Windsor and Lamoille counties.

Massachusetts: Berkshire and Franklin counties.

New Hampshire: Cheshire, Coos, Grafton and  Sullivan counties.

New York:  Rensselaer and Washington counties.

Hundreds of Homes Condemned after Flooding in Orange County, N.C.

State of emergency declared in Orange County amid major flood damage

Some 5.13 inches of rain Sunday inundated the county causing severe damage to hundreds of condominiums, local reports said.

Meanwhile, the rains continued Tuesday across central North Carolina, causing wastewater overflow in Chapel Hill area.

Severe weather watches and warnings were in effect for 68 N.C. counties, as of posting.

Dozens evacuated after flash flooding in Lebanon, N.H.

Rescue teams evacuated dozens of residents from a housing complex in Lebanon, New Hampshire Tuesday after heavy rains flooded the area, reports said.

The flooding has also caused “widespread damage” to roads and other public infrastructure.

NH governor has opened a state emergency operations center, said a report.

Alberta flood waters force Manitoba community into state of emergency

R.M. of Kelsey, home to The Pas and the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, have declared a state of emergency for the region waters continue to rise on the nearby Saskatchewan and Carrot Rivers.

The waters are expected to rise even more when flood waters from Alberta arrive later this month, said a report.

Officials expect water levels to surpass 2011 levels, when major flooding inundated Manitoba.

In June, deadly floods destroyed an entire town, forcing mass evacuations of entire communities.

“Heavy downpours are continuing to batter large parts of the country. Nine provinces and municipalities have been affected, including Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing, and Sichuan. The Latest US Snowstorm Left the East Coast, Making Room for Two More

The latest storm left East Coast on Sunday, after dumping another 3 inches of snow over Chicago.

A new front is departing from the Midwest and is forecast “to bring snow from the Ohio Valley throughout the Northeast starting Sunday night,” a forecaster said.

“Schools in Seabrook, New Hampshire, have been closed since Wednesday of last week and those in Methuen, Massachusetts, schools are expected to remain shut through at least Wednesday of this week to remove rooftop snow,” a report said.

NWS has issued flood warnings along the East Coast, from Maine in the northeast all the way to Florida in the southeast.  Two major storms have pummeled the East Coast, and there are threats of major flooding in the northeast.

Summary of Flooding:

• NWS warned of potential deadly floods in Rhode Island
• In Cranston, Rhode Island, Hundreds of families were evacuated from their homes on Monday.
• In Warwick, R.I., about 500 homes and business were evacuated.
• Massachusetts Gov declared a state of emergency and called a 1,000 National Guards to help residents in the deluge.
• As Boston broke its rain fall record for the month of March, forecaster expected New York City to break its all-time record for the month, too.

A powerful ice storm has knocked out power to 1.4 million homes and businesses across  seven states in New England, forcing the state of Maine to shut government offices.

States of emergency have been declared in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and in parts of Maine and New York state.

“This is a very, very serious situation right now,” New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch said after declaring an emergency in his state, in what the authorities described as the worst outages in 30 years.

The storm has killed at least 4 people so far and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage across northeast United States.
