The Land Day Massacre Continues

Background summary:

  • Israel has been imposing a deadly blockade on the two million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip since 2007.
  • The Jewish state has launched three genocidal attacks against the defenseless people since 2011.
  • Israeli occupation forces have begun a new massacre against unarmed demonstrators commemorating Land Day, killing at least 37 Palestinians and wounding 2,000 others.
  • A Palestinian journalist was shot dead in Gaza while covering mass protests along the Israeli border.
  • Gaza strip is effectively a large Israeli concentration camp, where Palestinians cannot come and go freely and are attacked at will. They are deprived of water, food, fuel, electricity and even medical supplies.
  • The protests will continue through mid-May, when Palestinians commemorate the 70th anniversary of the nakba, or catastrophe, when more than 700,000 were forced out or fled their homes in what is now Israel during the war of 1948.

At least 172 Palestinians killed by Israeli military in latest Gaza massacre

Tens of thousands of Palestinians are fleeing northern Gaza after Israel warned it was targeting the area “to stop the continuing rocket attacks from Gaza militants,” said a report.

“We do not wish to harm civilians in Gaza, but these civilians must know that remaining in close proximity to Hamas terrorists and infrastructures is extremely unsafe,” the Israel Military said, claiming that it was  targeting militants and “terror sites,” including the homes of senior Palestinians “militants.”

However, the UN says 77% of the people killed in Gaza have been civilians, said the report.

Some 17,000 of the refugees have sought refuge in UN facilities, the report quoted the organization as saying.

Meanwhile,  power to about 70,000 Gaza residents has been cut, with the Israeli military blaming the “militants” for a rocket attack that they say damaged the electricity network.

Israeli military says it has so far struck some 1,320 “terror” sites across Gaza, while claiming Palestinians  has launched more than 800 rockets at Israel.
