Strong Earthquake Measuring Up to 6.3Mw Strikes Near Catanduanes Island Province, Philippines Islands

An earthquake measuring up to magnitude 6.3 struck about 140 km (90 miles) ESE of Pandan, Catanduanes Island Province, Philippines at an estimated  depth of 25 km on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 18:50 UTC

Mt Mayon
The earthquake struck about 193 km (120 miles) ENE of Mt Mayon and could potentially trigger the volcano for another round of unrest/activity. The quake followed two earlier shocks which struck the same area on January 21, 2010, with the larger event measuring up to 5.8Mw.

Damage/ Casualties
As of posting, there were no reports of damage or casualties.

Tsunami Report
The Hawaii Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami warning, or watch.

Strong  quake measuring possibly as large as 6.9 strikes Mindanao, Philippines

Strong earthquake measuring as large as 6.9 Mw struck the seabed in Moro Gulf, Mindanao, Philippine, at a depth of about 630km, on Sunday, October 04, 2009 at 10:58 UTC.

On September 18, 2009, after a 5.5 Mw quakes struck south of Mindanao, FEWW forecast additional, more powerful earthquakes for the region.

Latest Earthquakes Measuring Magnitude 5.5 or Larger since September 18, 2009

The following significant earthquakes occurred within a 12-hour period.

The Bali Earthquake detailed below was reported as a Magnitude  6.0  shock by the  European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The quake was described as “very strong” by a number of people who sopke to the media. People were reportedly jumping from building and running away from their homes in panic after the quake struck. Up to a dozen people have been injured, some hurt jumping from buildings while others were hit by falling debris, according to news reports quoting officials.  No tsunami warning was issued.

An earthquake on the main Indonesian island of Java left more than 50 dead on September 2, 2009.

The 9.3 Mw Sumatra-Andaman earthquake which caused the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed an estimated quarter of million people in 11 countries, was the second largest earthquake recorded on a seismograph. The earthquake was also characterized by the longest ever duration of faulting lasting about 10 minutes, which made the entire planet to vibrate about 1 cm triggering earthquakes as far north as in Alaska.

An earthquake measuring 6.0 Mw struck in the South China Sea off the west coast  of Mindoro, Philippines, at a depth of 50.1 km on September 18, 2009  at 06:23:58 UTC, USGS/ EHP said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the quake as a magnitude 6.1 shock on the Richter scale.

Phivolcs said the quake was felt at various intensities in Mamburao and Batangas City; Makati City, Pasay City, Manila City, Tagaytay City and Dasmariñas City;  in San Jose town (in Occidental Mindoro), Puerto Galera, Malay (in Aklan), and Guinayangan (in Quezon).

Phivolcs also said it was expecting aftershocks and some damage caused by the earthquake; however, as of posting, no damage had been reported.

There was no report of tsunami after the  quake.
