Rhode Island Severe Winter Storm and Snowstorm (DR-4212)
The White House has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Rhode Island due to the damage and losses caused by a severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 26-28, 2015.
Areas in Little Rhody that have been worst affected by the severe winter storm and snowstorm are the counties of Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington.
Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments, said the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.

A joint request by Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri and the the state’s Emergency Management Agency to amend a federal major disaster declaration has been approved by the President, declaring the entire state a disaster area. (Source: AP)
Janet Napolitano, Department of Homeland Security Secretary, took a helicopter tour of Rhode Island on Friday, witnessing the extent of damage to the waterlogged state.
The ultimate cost of damage in RI could reach a billion, or more, at a time when the state has a budget deficit of nearly a quarter of a billion, with an unemployment rate of near 14 percent.

Unemployment stood near 14 percent even before the deluge began. Many more people now fear losing their jobs and livelihood in the aftermath of the disaster.
President Barracks Obama has already declared a major disaster in all but one Rhode Island county.
The impact of worst flooding in the state’s history, however, may prove a lot costlier than money can afford. How many more seasons like this could Rhode Island survive the collapse?

NWS has issued flood warnings along the East Coast, from Maine in the northeast all the way to Florida in the southeast. Two major storms have pummeled the East Coast, and there are threats of major flooding in the northeast.

The states of Massachusetts, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington sued the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) yesterday for failing to limit greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and trucks. The lawsuit came one year after the Supreme Court ruled that the agency had the power to do so.
