North Korea Announces ‘Successful’ H-Bomb Test

Posted by feww on January 6, 2016

“[North Korea] deserved to hold nuclear weapons to counter nuclear threats by the US” —State media

North Korea says it has successfully tested a hydrogen bomb, as earthquake monitoring centers reported a significant seismic event near the main nuclear test site in Punggye-ri.

“The republic’s first hydrogen bomb test has been successfully performed at 10:00 am on January 6, 2016,” said the North Korean state TV.

A powerful weapon, developed in the 1950s by the United States, the hydrogen bomb, aka thermonuclear bomb, uses the nuclear fusion of hydrogen isotopes in a chain reaction to deliver a more devastating payload than the atomic bomb, which is powered by nuclear fission.

The H-bomb is said to be a “cleaner” bomb than its atomic cousin because it has less radioactive fallout, but delivers more bang for the buck.
