Earth is fighting to stay alive. Mass dieoffs, triggered by anthropogenic assault and fallout of planetary defense systems offsetting the impact, could begin anytime!

Detroit Denying Water and Sewerage to ½ Million Citizens

Officials at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) have cut off service to 7,556 customers in April and May and are now speeding up the service denial to as many as 3,000 delinquent accounts per week.

“That the water department’s shutoff policy is uncompromising, making no exceptions for households with infant children, elderly or disabled residents, said a report.

Detroit!

About 40% of Detroiters live in poverty. Some 83% of population are black, and the reported unemployment rate is edging close to 15%.

“Assisting low-income residents with paying their water bills would help avert a public health crisis,” U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Detroit), said in a letter to Obama Thursday, while asking Health and Human Services Secretary to declare a public health emergency, calling the shutoff campaign “draconian.” Said the report.

“Regardless of the rationale for these cutoffs, the human consequences are unacceptable and unsustainable,” said Conyers on Friday.

“Last week, the Detroit City Council approved an 8.7% increase in the water rate, contributing to a total increase of 119% over the last decade,” Conyers said.

“As roughly half the city is now eligible for shutoffs, we believe that immediate action is necessary to stem the consequences of this counterproductive and coldhearted policy,” he said.

“It is utterly unacceptable to put the most vulnerable members of our population through severe hardship, utilizing a method that clearly violates their basic human rights, as a collection practice.”

Detroit: Disconnecting water from people who cannot pay – an affront to human rights, say UN experts

“Disconnection of water services because of failure to pay due to lack of means constitutes a violation of the human right to water and other international human rights.”

Young people in the UK “feel they have nothing to live for”

Posted by feww on January 2, 2014

The Loss of Will to Live
.

32 percent of long-term unemployed young people have contemplated suicide, 24 percent had self-harmed: Report

Up to three quarters of a million young people in the UK may feel that they have nothing to live for, said a report.

Of the 2,161 long-term unemployed 16 to 25-year-olds interviewed, 281 were classified as Neet (not in employment, education or training) with 166 of the Neets being unemployed for more than six months.

Some 9% of all respondents agreed with the statement: “I have nothing to live for” and if 9% of all youngsters felt the same, it would equate to more than ¾ million young people feeling they had nothing to live for.

“Among those respondents classified as Neet, the percentage of those agreeing with the statement rose to 21%,” said the report.

About 40% of jobless young people had experienced symptoms of mental illness, including suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, and  feelings of self-hatred as a direct result of unemployment.

The long-term unemployed young people were more than twice as likely as their peers to have been prescribed anti-depressants, said the report.

More than 440,000 young people are facing long-term unemployment in the UK.

The report is posted here.

A Most Powerful Mechanism of Collapse:
The Loss of Will to Live

Posted by edro on November 4, 2008

The will to live is the ultimate human phenomenon maintained by a fine balance between the four interrelated elements:

  • Health of the environment
  • Physical and mental well being
  • Nature’s supplies and services
  • Societal vigor

the-will-to-live

As the demands on nature multiply,  the environment progressively deteriorates and civilization becomes increasingly dysfunctional, the balance exponentially declines and the future of human species, entirely by their own making, becomes rapidly bleaker.

Rhode Island: Step Nearer Collapse?

Posted by feww on April 2, 2010

Serial No  1,527. If any posts are blocked in your country, please drop us a line.

Storm, Rain, Flooding and Unemployment

The ultimate cost of damage in RI could reach a billion, or more, but the military needs the money in Afghanistan.

Unemployment stood near 14 percent even before the deluge began. Many more people now fear losing their jobs and livelihood in the aftermath of the disaster.

President Barracks Obama has already declared a major disaster in all but one Rhode Island county.

The impact of worst flooding in the state’s history, however, may prove a lot costlier than money can afford. How many more seasons like this could Rhode Island survive the collapse?

U.S., the world, stake their future on High-Energy Strategies. Energy models’ simulations show all such strategies end in collapse. EDRO
