The lightning-sparked Saddle Fire, which started on June 13, has now grown to more than 650 acres, threatening at least 185 structures.
Meanwhile, NWS reported RECORD HEAT across Utah.

Drought Disaster Declared for Multiple Counties across Two U.S. States
Drought Disaster Emergency Designations
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated a total of 13 counties across two states—Wyoming and Montana—as crop disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by a recent drought. Those areas are:
Wyoming. Big Horn, Campbell, Converse, Fremont, Hot Springs, Johnson, Natrona, Park, Sheridan and Washakie counties.
Montana. Big Horn, Carbon and Powder River counties.
Notes:
i. USDA trigger point for a countywide disaster declaration is 30 percent crop loss on one or more crops.
ii. The counties designated as agricultural disaster areas, as listed above, include both primary and contiguous disaster areas.
iii. Some counties may have been designated as crop disaster areas more than once due to multiple disasters.
iv. The U.S. has a total of 3,143 counties and county-equivalents.
‘Giant crack in the earth’ caused up to ’20 million yards of movement’
The crack, described as “the gash” by people who first reported it, SNS Outfitter & Guides, has appeared in or about mid October on a ranch on the flanks the Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming.
A state geologist has described the movement as a “medium-to-large-sized event [even] by Wyoming standards,” slow-moving landslide probably caused by a combination of excessive precipitation and water from a nearby spring.
The SNS Outfitter & Guides have released the following statement earlier this week:
“Since so many people have commented and asked questions, we wanted to post an update with a little more information. An engineer from Riverton, WY came out to shed a little light on this giant crack in the earth. Apparently, a wet spring lubricated across a cap rock. Then, a small spring on either side caused the bottom to slide out. He estimated 15 to 20 million yards of movement. By range finder, an estimate is 750 yards long and about 50 yards wide.”
Wildfires destroy dozens of buildings, force hundreds of evacuations in Wyoming, Idaho
Ferocious blazes, fueled by unseasonably warm temperatures and driven by strong winds, have destroyed dozens of homes and outbuilding in the US states of Wyoming and Idaho, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes.
Drought, unusually warm temperatures and strong winds continue to prolong the fire season in the US West.
One of the blazes that started near Wyoming’s second largest city of Casper Saturday night had consumed a bout 10,000 acres of grassland and buildings by late Monday, said a report.
At least 12 families have lost their homes, and hundreds of others have been forced to abandon their properties due to the Cole Creek Fire that started at a landfill in Evansville on Saturday.
Walker Fire burning near Idaho City
In Idaho, the Walker Fire had burned an estimated 3,400 acres, destroying several structures and forcing up to a hundreds people from their homes, according to local reports.
“The northwest flank of the fire saw the most significant growth today, growing toward Rattlesnake Creek and into Wild Horse Creek. It burned further into heavy timber, causing columns of smoke visible from miles away,” said Idaho Fire Info.
The Disaster President has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Wyoming in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding during the period of May 24-June 6, 2015.
Areas worst affected by the extreme weather events—severe storms and flooding—include Johnson and Niobrara counties.
Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the territory and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
This is the 23rd Major Disaster Declaration proclaimed for a U.S. state/territory, so far this year. Additionally the federal government has issued five Fire Management Assistance Declarations.

Severe weather, floods, mudslides, landslides… wreak havoc throughout Wyoming
Wyoming Gov. Mead has issued an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency in response to flooding in the Cowboy State.
I am very concerned about the weather-related damage across Wyoming and the toll it is taking on our citizens and communities, said Governor Mead. Mudslides have closed some roads in Sunlight Basin near Cody, Wind River Canyon and Togwotee Pass and flooding has caused damage in Niobrara, Johnson and other counties.
Small town of Garland City, located about 20 miles from in Texarkana, Arkansas, was evacuated early Friday, after Miller County emergency management officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for the town’s 250 residents.
Although the town’s levee had been weakened and was leaking, it had not failed, and the evacuation was ordered as a precaution, officials said.
Emergency management officials sounded a siren and went door-to-door to warn residents.

A slow-moving landslide in Jackson, Wyoming has started accelerating, threatening apartment blocks, homes and businesses.
“A couple of days ago the movement had increased to roughly four to six inches per day, and yesterday we had movements in the order of a foot, and that’s throughout the slide,” said a landslide expert George Machan, reported WPM.
Consequently, town officials abandoned a plan to erect an emergency buttress designed to slow down the slide. They decided it was unsafe to work beneath a cut slope, and pulled workers off the job, said the report.
“George Machan of Landslide Technologies noticed a formation in the landslide called a ‘graben’ and this formation is dropping down and pushing out the lower portion of the landslide. This is occurring on the western edge of the high risk area. Aerial photos provided by Tributary Environmental allowed this particular feature to be identified. The acceleration in the slide has been doubling since approximately April 1st with significant movement in the last 24 hours. Significant movement has occurred on the hillside with increased depth and width to all cracks delineating the slide. The eastern crack has dropped 10-15 feet down the mountain and is quite visible from the street,” according to the town’s website..
“Already, the slide has destroyed a newly built town pumphouse, although crews salvaged what technical equipment they could. Lower Valley Energy has shut off gas to the western side of the hillside neighborhood as a safety precaution.”
“The acceleration in the slide has been doubling since approximately April 1st, with significant movement in the last 24 hours,” according to information posted on town’s website.

“The sewer line to Budge Drive ruptured today and Town crews worked to cap off the line to avoid any health and safety concerns. Tomorrow crews will begin to construct a workaround to avoid disruption of sewer service to the Budge neighborhood. Because there are a few residents that have chosen to remain in the evacuation advisory area, sewer service is still important,” according to the town’s website.
Hundreds of residents in two apartment buildings and several homes near the base of the Budge Drive Slide are under an evacuation orders.
The evacuation order also covers multiple commercial units.
“Evacuations from residences and several businesses below the crumbling hillside may continue for weeks as Jackson crews and utility companies work to prevent ruptures to gas and power lines and a city water main.” Reuters reported.
Swarm of earthquakes rattle Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The quakes included a magnitude 4.8Mw shock, the largest shock at Yellowstone since February 22, 1980, according to Yellowstone Volcano Observatory (YVO).
The swarm, which began striking the area on March 27, also included a magnitude 3.1Mw event.
The seismicity occurred in an area of uplift that has been elevated for about 7 months, said YVO.
Elevated seismicity was also observed in the same region during a previous period of uplift between 1996 and 2003.
YVO says there is no indication of other geologic activity, i.e., a volcanic eruption, except for the continuing seismicity (!)
Hawaii Earthquake

A large cluster of earthquakes including more than a dozen shocks measuring 2.7Mw to 4.4Mw struck Oklahoma between 03:08UTC and 14:09 UTC on March 30, 2014.
The most significant quakes in the cluster so far include three shocks measuring 4.3 and 4.4Mw.
