More than a billion people, civilians and military personnel, have been killed, starved to death, maimed, raped, persecuted, or forcefully displaced in dozens of wars since WWI, which broke out in July 1914.

Dozens of wars including WWI, WWII, the Cold War (1947–1991), dozens of regional wars, the “War on Terror” … have generated tens of trillions of dollars for the stakeholders of the military-industrial complex (or the military–industrial–congressional complex)…

    The gunman who fatally shot at least 12 people and wounded about two-dozen others at a country and western dance hall in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has been identified as 28-year-old Ian David Long of Newbury Park, Calif., who had served in the Marine Corps.

    “Veterans account for 13 percent of the adult population, but more than a third of the adult perpetrators of the 43 worst mass killings since 1984 had been in the United States military. It is clear that, in the etiology of mass killings, military service is an important risk factor.”
