1,213 earthquakes strike the U.S. in the 7 days to 4th of July

At least 1,213 earthquakes of all magnitudes have struck the United States and Puerto Rico in the seven-day period to the 4th of July 2015.

The quakes have occurred across 19 States—Alabama, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming—and Puerto Rico.

The global total for the period was 1,314.

  • The largest quake that occurred globally was a M6.4 (M6.5, according to China’s CENC) about 95km SE of Yilkiqi, China at a depth of 20km on 2015-07-03 at 01:07:47 UTC
  • The largest quake that occurred in the U.S. was a M5.2 about 13km S of Volcano, Hawaii at a depth of 8.6km on 2015-06-28 at 08:10:10UTC.
