Quote of the Week:

He thought his wife was an imposter

If the incident wasn’t so tragic, you’d be holding your stomach, ROFL

The defense doesn’t dispute that Blazej Kot, 25, murdered his wife Caroline Coffey, a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University, but Kot suffered from a psychiatric disorder known as “Capgras delusion,” which made him think his 28-year-old wife had been replaced by an identical-looking impostor. —Joe Joch, the murderer’s defense attorney.

“You have to be willing to learn about mental illness and how it presents itself [if Kot is to get a fair trial,] Joch told the jury.  “There is no simple explanation. The explanation is found in the human mind as it descends into the abyss.”

How come murderers who hide behind some sort of insanity plea always get “smart” attorneys? Would Joch buy that defense tactic, if his own daughter had been brutally murdered?

Kot who has been charged with murder, arson and tampering with physical evidence, led police on a eight-kilometer, high-speed chase . Not bad for a mentally ill to arrange all that.

NZer’s computer used to look up ‘how to kill’ court told

A computer belonging to New Zealand man Blazej Kot, 25, was used to look up “how to kill” on the night his wife’s throat was cut, an American court has been told.

Kot, a former PhD student at Cornell University in New York state — where his wife, Dr Caroline Coffey, 28,was a post-doctoral biomedical researcher — allegedly also used the computer to find information on the jugular vein, WENY TV channel reported today from his murder trial.

The Auckland University computer science graduate is facing charges of murder, arson and tampering with physical evidence.

New York state police investigator Ryan Kubasiak told the court “how+to+kill+neck+aretery” (sic) was typed into an internet search engine on Kot’s computer on the evening of June 2 last year.

Kot is accused of fatally slashing Dr Coffey’s throat on a running trail near their apartment and setting fire to the apartment.

Police found laptop computers belonging to Kot and Dr Coffey on the coffee table of the charred apartment the next day, according to testimony and court papers.

The Ithaca Journal newspaper reported Kot’s computer was used to access Dr Coffey’s webpage, an answers web page asking how to inflict a neck wound to kill instantly and a Wikipedia page about the jugular vein that showed an anatomical drawing of the neck.

Though the computer was set to clear its history of internet pages when closed, the browser remained open, keeping the pages in its history and accessible, Mr Kubasiak said.
Kot and Dr Coffey were married in 2008, but celebrated a marriage ceremony in Costa Rica on May 2, 2009.
