Hundreds of Iraqi Civilians Executed in November

Some 941 Iraqi civilians were killed in November, according to Iraq Body Count. The toll included 323 people executed including 6 doctors and 12 university students in Dash-controlled Mosul. Additionally, 65 corpses were found throughout the conflict zone, while 117 others were killed in Iraqi and Coalition airstrikes including 28 children who were killed in a French airstrike on Mosul last Wednesday (Nov. 24).

According to the UN Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), a total of at least 888 Iraqis were killed and another 1,237 were wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in November 2015*.

• A further 399 members of the Iraqi Security Forces (including Peshmerga, SWAT and militias fighting alongside the Iraqi Army / Not including casualties from Anbar Operations) were killed and 368 were wounded.

* CAVEATS: In general, UNAMI has been hindered in effectively verifying casualties in conflict areas. UNAMI could not obtain the casualty figures for the month of November from Anbar. In some cases, UNAMI could only partially verify certain incidents. UNAMI has also received, without being able to verify, reports of large numbers of casualties along with unknown numbers of persons who have died from secondary effects of violence after having fled their homes due to exposure to the elements, lack of water, food, medicines and health care. For these reasons, the figures reported have to be considered as the absolute minimum.

888 Iraqis killed 1,237 other wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict: UN

A total of at least 888 Iraqis were killed and another 1,237 were wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in November 2015*, according to casualty figures released today by UNAMI.

At least 489 civilians were among those killed, and 869 others wounded, said the report.

A further 399 members of the Iraqi Security Forces (including Peshmerga, SWAT and militias fighting alongside the Iraqi Army / Not including casualties from Anbar Operations) were killed and 368 were wounded.

Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate with 1,110 civilian casualties (325 killed, 785 injured), Ninewa had 109 killed and 41 injured, while Kirkuk 14 killed and 23 injured, Salahadin 21 killed and 08 injured, and Diyala 16 killed and 11 injured.

According to Iraq Body Count, which claims to maintain “the world’s largest public database of violent civilian deaths since the 2003 invasion,” some 941 civilians were killed in November.

State of Emergency Declared in Oklahoma amid Deadly Storms

Governor Fallin has declared a state of emergency for all 77 counties in Oklahoma after storms battered the state, causing widespread flooding and leaving roads coated with up to 3cm of ice.

About 25 cm of rain fell across large swathes of SE Oklahoma over a 100-hour period causing extensive flash flooding and forcing the authorities to close two state highways.

“Nearly 100,000 homes were still without power Sunday afternoon as a result of freezing rain, ice and sleet that began Thursday. The state of emergency will help facilitate additional mutual aid, which includes oversized vehicles such as those transporting utility poles to the affected areas,” according to statement posted on Fallin’s website.

The storm have so far killed about two dozen people across the affected region.
