Deadly Quake Hits Spanish Town

Posted by feww on May 12, 2011

Deadly earthquake strikes town in SE Spain, killing  a dozen people,  injuring many

A magnitude 5.2 quake struck about 6 km SW of the historic town of Lorca (pop 86,119)  in Spain’s Murcia region at 16:47 UTC  on May 11, killing at least a dozen people and injuring many more.

Earthquake Location Map

Click image to enlarge. Source: EMSC

The earthquake was epicentered at 37.65ºN, 1.76ºW and struck at a depth of  10 km, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said. The mainshock was preceded by an M4.2 foreshock, and followed by at least a half dozen smaller aftershocks.

High Casualty figures

According to USGS the quake struck at a shallow depth of about 1km (0.6 mile), which could explain the high casualty figures.

Another reason may be the fact that the old part of the town, sections of which date back to the Bronze Age, houses historic churches, medieval walls and buildings, which are more prone to collapse than modern structure, reports said.

The deaths were caused by “cave-ins and falling debris,” the mayor of Lorca was reported as saying. “We’re trying to find out if there are people inside the collapsed houses.”

Other Earthquakes in Europe

About a dozen other shocks have struck

  • Madeira Islands, Portugal Region
  • Southern Italy
  • Central Turkey
  • The Aegean Sea
  • Southern Greece
  • Crete
  • Sicily

Raffaele Bendandi Earthquake Prediction

Many Romans fled the Eternal City yesterday (Wednesday) amid fears of a pending earthquake, ANSA news agency said.

In 1915 the late Italian watchmaker, carpenter and amateur seismologist Raffaele Bendandi (1893 – 1979) reportedly predicted that the “the big one” would strike Rome on May 11, 2011.

He believed that earthquakes are caused by planetary alignment in the solar system. The gravitational pull of the moon, sun and other planets caused movements in the earth’s crust, he thought.

A number of Internet prophets have since published much nonsense attributing each and every single quake that occur on this planet to planetary alignments.

FIRE-EARTH contacted one of these astrologers last month requesting a list of details and times of the alignments to establish any link to the strong, powerful and even mega quakes that have struck the planet in the last 10 years.

The said “prophet” responded by sending a list that excluded the timing and details of any alignment during which a significant quake measuring magnitude 6.0 or greater might have occurred.

Example from the list forwarded to FIRE-EARTH: “[Allegedly the alignment  of] Earth-Venus-Mars; Earth-Sun- Saturn; Jupiter-Earth-Mercury on October 1, 2010” caused a 7.8Mw quake to occur in Indonesia 24 days later on October 25, 2010 (!)

Notes:

  1. In 2010 some 172 earthquakes measuring 6.0 to 7.9 struck the planet.
  2. The average strike rate for quakes measuring 7.0 to 7.9 was about one in 17 days in 2010 (21 quakes in 365 days).
  3. Data in Notes 1 and 2 above are provided by the USGS and may not be accurate due to political manipulation, but should be treated as ballpark figures.

Any Forecast?

FIRE-EARTH also asked the “astrologer seismologist” to provide a list of forecasts for any number of  earthquakes in the 1, 3 and 5 years that would be caused by planetary alignments.

The astrologer responded by saying that he was “too busy to do calculate [ planetary alignments.]”

Thanks for update.
Our advice to YOU and all intelligent people in Wellington area
1. There’s a frighteningly large buildup of tectonic stress energy right under your feet.
2. RUN while you’re still alive, before the next exodus bottleneck makes it impossible to flee the danger zone.

Earthquakes are natural phenomenons (as opposed to sci-fi action you alluded) and as such constitute part of the earth’s natural defense mechanism, among other functions. What you’re witnessing is a planetary response to harms caused by humans.

In “Christchurch Earthquake and ‘Somali Pirates’” posted on February 27, 2011 FIRE-EARTH issued the following warning:

[SEISMIC HAZARD WARNING: Areas in and around the Golden Bay, the Tasman Bay, the region north and south of the Cook Strait, the entire northern seaboard of North Island, especially the Hauraki Gulf area, as well as the western and eastern seaboards of the NI are believed to be among NZ’s potential disaster hotpots. In reply to a reader comment, posted on February 25, FIRE-EARTH said:
“FIRE-EARTH believes that unprecedented cataclysmic geophysical events [seismic, volcanic …] WILL destroy much of New Zealand islands within the next few years.”

IF you’re interested about saving lives, these are the sort of messages that you really ought to spread, NOT the sci-fi nonsense about “mega weapons.”

Truth is the bottom line, income from tourism, is more important to your government than human lives.

“and our govt are just people, citizens, like ourselves…”

REALLY? Are you a multimillionaire like your PM John Key?

Your PM is a greedy individual who has amassed a massive fortune, albeit from “immoral activities,” and who has shown no interest in the livelihood of quarter of a million NZ kids living in abject poverty.

That’s what you call democracy?

Christchurch Earthquake UPDATE Feb 26

Posted by feww on February 26, 2011

Secrecy, Police Control and Political Manipulation Continue in the Quake Aftermath

Confirmed death toll from the Christchurch earthquake has risen to 145, as of posting, with 200+ listed as missing, the Canterbury Region police chief has said.

  • Despite the mounting death toll, NZ police have only released the names of six victims.
  • Police refusal to release the list of those missing remains an even bigger mystery.

The Cathedral ‘God’ Despised

Demolition workers are lowered by crane onto the top of the Christchurch Cathedral. About 22 people, mostly foreign tourists, are said to be entombed inside the 130-year old building. Photo credit: AP. Image may be subject to copyright.

Other deatails:

  • There was no live rescue today, just recovery.
  • Rescue operations have been abandoned in several areas.
  • About 150,000 tons of sand, surfaced as a result of the liquefaction, will have to be removed from Christchurch’s eastern suburbs, reports say.  Only about a fifth of that amount (30,000 tons of sand) was removed after the September 4, 2010 earthquake, NZ’s civil defense has said.
  • More than a third of Christchurch workforce will be out of work for months/years because of the closure of downtown.
  • About 65,000 people remain without water
  • More than 100,000 have no sewerage service.
  • At least 1,000 homes and business have been assessed as “unsafe,” with many more rated as “requiring further assessment.”
  • About one-third of the buildings  in central Christchurch would have to be demolished, according to one estimate.
  • About 200 elderly residents from the worst-affected areas have been transferred out of Christchurch area.
  • At least a quarter of Christchurch buildings are still without power.
  • “More than 500 competitors from 30 different countries were taking part in the ITF World Seniors Championships in Christchurch when the quake hit the 6.3 magnitude quake hit on Tuesday.” Said a report.

Noteworthy Points for Collapse Scholars:

  • Racketeering. Many businesses in Christchurch are reportedly hiking up their prices to maximize profit in the wake of the fatal earthquake, Newstalk ZB said.
  • Food Security. at least 50,000 of Christchurch workforce will be out of work for months, possibly years because of the devastation caused by the earthquake.
  • The Police State. Some 324 police personnel have been imported from Australia and sworn to secrecy.
  • The Exodus. The rush to get out of Christchurch is accelerating, reports say. “Some of those leaving are going for good, even some who have nowhere else to go.” Said a report.  The exodus from Christchurch to Picton and Wellington has begun.
  • The Domino Effect. The city of Nelson, and towns of Blenheim and Picton (and others in the Marlborough region),  have reportedly run out of accommodation for the elderly, after many were relocated from Christchurch following Tuesday’s earthquake.
