Radioactive Boar Shot in Sweden

Posted by feww on October 6, 2017

Boar and reindeer radioactive 31 years after Chernobyl disaster

A wild boar with radiation levels exceeding ten times the “safe limit” has been shot in central Sweden, a report said.

“One boar shot in August had a radiation of 13,000 becquerel per kilogram (Bq/kg), whereas the limit set by Sweden’s Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) for safe consumption is 1,500 Bq/kg.”

Another boar shot in Tärnsjö (eastern coast of Sweden) earlier and kept in a freezer showed radiation level of 16,000 Bg/kg, or ten times the safe limit.

What Did These Kids Do to You, BaracK Obama?

5,835 refugee minors missing in Germany last year: report

Some 5,835 refugee minors have disappeared in Germany in 2015, including 555 who were under the age of 14, German media reported.

The report was published by the news organization Funke Mediengruppe, which obtained the information from the German parliament.

Most of the missing minors reportedly came to Europe from Syria and Afghanistan, and fewer numbers from Morocco, Eritrea, and Algeria, according to the data released by Berlin’s Interior Ministry.

The authorities have so far failed to explain how so many kids could have disappeared without a trace.

The latest revelation follows the Europol’s announcement in January, that since mid-2014 about 10,000 minors had gone missing after entering the EU.

In May 2015, Italian authorities warned that about 5,000 children had disappeared from asylum reception centers since the previous summer.

In Sweden, about 1,000 unaccompanied refugee children and teens had gone missing by October last year, within a month of arriving in the southern town of Trelleborg, officials have admitted.

[Our Swedish colleagues believe thousands more refugee minors are missing in Sweden.]

In 2015, a total of 1,047,844 refugees and migrants arrived in Europe [Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Malta, as well as Cyprus] including 1,011,712 by sea, with at least 5,394 fatalities recorded globally, said IOM’s Missing Migrants Project.

More than 95,000 unaccompanied refugee children claimed asylum in Europe in 2015, more than 4 time the number in 2014, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Who is responsible for this evil?

Mr Obama, we hold you responsible for the destabilization of Syria, deaths of tens of thousands of Syrians and the fate of missing refugee children.

NOTHING SHORT OF GENOCIDE: 10,000 Migrant Kids Missing in EU

Posted by feww on January 31, 2016

Fate of the migrant kids who don’t drown at sea…

At least 10,000 migrant children may have disappeared in Europe over  the past 24 months, said the EU’s police intelligence unit (Europol).

“We estimate that at least 26,000 unaccompanied children entered Europe last year – children who have risked everything to flee war, persecution and extreme poverty alone. They come from Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Somalia and Iraq, among other places, seeking sanctuary,” said Save the Children’s CEO, earlier this month.

On Friday, IOM said an estimated that 55,528 migrants and refugees had crossed the Mediterranean to enter Europe during the first 28 days of 2016 – a rate of nearly 2,000 per day. The daily average is nearly equivalent to the total numbers for the month of January as recently as two years ago.

During the same period IOM has recorded some 244 deaths at sea [global total of 361 fatalities,] as well as at least a dozen more deaths of migrants and refugees who died either after reaching Europe or traveling to a launch point in Turkey. By comparison, total deaths on Mediterranean Sea routes were 12 in 2014 and 82 last year.

Just hours after IOM released its latest statement, 39 more migrants and refugees including 10 children drowned on Saturday trying to cross the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece.

NOTHING SHORT OF GENOCIDE !

Genocide is being committed against people of Syria by all those who destabilized the country

In 2010, there were no Syrian refugees drowning in the Mediterranean while escaping the Wahhabi block terrorists. Even polio had long been eradicated across the country…

When President Barack Obama secretly authorized the Central Intelligence Agency to begin arming Syria’s embattled rebels in 2013, the spy agency knew it would have a willing partner to help pay for the covert operation. It was the same partner the CIA has relied on for decades for money and discretion in far-off conflicts: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. —Mark Mazzetti and Matt Apuzzo

U.S. officials have not disclosed the amount of the Saudi contribution, which is by far the largest from another nation to the program to arm the rebels against President Bashar Assad’s military. But estimates have put the total cost of the arming and training effort at several billion dollars.

Statement to the Security Council on Syria, New York, 27 January 2016

Since 2011, more than 250,000 people have been killed, well over a million injured, and 6.5 million internally displaced within Syria. About 4.6 million refugees, and most of the remaining population – some 13.5 million people – are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, said the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O’Brien.

At least 24 migrants including 10 children drowned in the Mediterranean on Wednesday, after their boat capsized near Greece.

In 2015, some 3,811 people were reported dead or missing in the Mediterranean, most all were migrants trying to escape war zones, poverty or persecution in their homelands, reported the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

At least 224 similar deaths have occurred so far this year, said IOM.

Highlights of a U.N. Report Last Week

  • Unconfirmed reports of 300 civilians killed by ISIL and 400 civilians abducted
  • Already limited supplies of foods and other commodities are likely to diminish soon putting 200,000 individuals at risk of increased malnutrition
  • Those living in GoS controlled areas also face serious protection risks should ISIL take full control of the area
  • On 19 January, the Government of Russia announced that they dropped 40 MT of relief supplies from the air.

Meanwhile, several European countries, which feel threatened by the influx of refugees, threaten to deport tens of thousands of asylum-seekers:

Powerful Storm EGON Wreaks Havoc in Northern Europe

Posted by feww on January 11, 2015

EGON causes record sea-level rises in Denmark

Storm EGON, the second of two powerful storms to hit northern Europe over the weekend, cut power to hundreds of  thousands of people in Norway, caused record sea-level rises in Denmark, and battered Sweden.

EGON pounded Denmark with hurricane strength winds for about  15 hours and became “the worst storm to hit the country since December 2013,” said a report.

Strong winds from EGON and the preceding storm DAGMAR raised sea levels to new record highs in parts of the country, the report said.

Denmark has its hottest year on record

Denmark reported its warmest ever annual average temperature.  The Danish Meteorology Institute (DMI) said the 2014 average temperature was 10.0°C.

“For the first time ever, the annual average temperature in Denmark is at double digits, a feat that meteorologists say is ‘unthinkable without climate change,'” said a report quoting DMI.

Mayon in high state of unrest, explosive eruption possible

Thousands of people have been evacuated from around the foot Mt Mayon, Philippines’ most active volcano, as the crater glow became observable indicating presence of molten lava and superheated volcanic gases.

PHIVOLCS released the following bulletins earlier:

MAYON VOLCANO BULLETIN 16 September 2014 8:00 A.M.

Mayon Volcano’s (13.2500°N, 123.6833°E) seismic network recorded thirty-two (32) volcanic earthquakes and seventy-two (72) rock fall events during the past 24-hour observation period. Intensity III (bright) crater glow was visible last night, although rain clouds prevented visual observation of the crater during the day. Rolling incandescent rockfall within the uppermost reaches of the Bonga Gully last night indicates that the summit lava dome is breaching the crater in its southeastern side. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) flux was measured at an average of 611 tonnes/day on 02 September 2014. Ground deformation data showed inflationary changes in the edifice from February 2014 based on precise leveling surveys on the 3rd week of August 2014, and edifice inflation from January 2012 baselines based on continuous tilt measurement. All the above data indicate that the volcano is exhibiting relatively high unrest due to the movement of potentially eruptible magma.

Mayon Volcano’s alert status has been raised to Alert Level 3.   This means that magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks. It is recommended that the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano and the 7-km Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeastern flank be enforced due to the danger of rock falls, landslides and sudden explosions or dome collapse that may generate hazardous volcanic flows.  PHIVOLCS maintains close monitoring of Mayon Volcano and any new development will be communicated to all concerned stakeholders.

NOTICE OF INCREASE TO ALERT LEVEL 3:

In the past several hours, a noticeable escalation of unrest was recorded by the Mayon Volcano monitoring network. Since 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM today, 39 rockfall events that are ascribed to incipient breaching of the growing summit lava dome across the southeastern crater rim, and 32 low frequency volcanic earthquakes that indicate magma intrusion and/or volcanic gas activity, have been detected. Crater glow has become observable, indicating incandescence of the crater from molten lava and hot volcanic gas.

In view thereof, PHIVOLCS-DOST is now raising the alert status of Mayon Volcano from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3. This means that Mayon is exhibiting relatively high unrest and that magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks.  It is therefore recommended that the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano and the 7-km Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeastern flank be enforced due to the danger of rockfalls, landslides and sudden explosions or dome collapse that may generate hazardous volcanic flows. PHIVOLCS maintains close monitoring of Mayon Volcano and any new development will be communicated to all concerned stakeholders.

Significant Earthquakes

Iceland has been rattled by 7 significant quakes measuring between magnitudes 4.6 and 5.3Mw since September 10.

  • The largest quake measured 5.3Mw, which occurred 108km WNW of Hofn at depth of 10.0 km on 2014-09-15 at 08:05:02 UTC.

Sweden registered a rare earthquake measuring 4.7Mw, which struck about 59km (37mi) N of Mora, said USGS/EHP.

  • The quake occurred at a depth of about 14.3km (8.9mi), at 13:08UTC on September 15, 2014.

Oklahomans were rattled by at least 4 earthquakes over the last 24 hours. The quakes measured between magnitudes 2.7 and 4.0Mw.

  • The largest quake measuring 4.0Mw occurred about 6km S of Guthrie, Oklahoma at a depth of 4.4 km on September 15 at 20:08UTC.

Japan recorded a magnitude 5.6 shock striking Ibaraki Prefecture about 44km (27mi) NNE of Tokyo, which scared the living daylight out of millions of local kamikazes.

  • The quake registered 5- (Five Minus) on the local 7-point seismic scale.

Massive forest fire sweeping central Sweden, spreading north

A deadly forest-fire, said to be largest forest fires in Sweden in modern times, has consumed more than 15,000 hectares and continues to spread  uncontrollably.

The fire has forced at least 1,000 Swedes out of their homes, and put the entire 4,500 population of the town Norberg on standby for evacuation, said a report.

The fire has claimed at least one life so far. The body of a 30-year-old man, who had died from burns, was found on a road north of Stabäck, Västmanland on Tuesday, said the report.

The fire is now spreading north, and the authorities say it could burn for weeks, even months.

“The fire risks heading north to the lower reaches of Norberg,” Fredrik Eriksson of the emergency services told reporters.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this. Evacuation? That’s what happens in wartime,” said a Norberg resident.

“Forest fires are a risk we tend to associate primarily with southern Europe, but we are seeing that no country is immune,” said Sweden’s EU Commissioner, as she thanked Italy and France for providing support.

Record Lightning Strikes

Some 47,901 lightning strikes were recorded in Sweden Sunday night beating a previous record of 45,000 strikes set earlier this year, said the report.

Record Heat

The mercury rose to at 34°C in the town of Härsnäs in Östergötland on Sunday, setting a new record for August. The town of Visby in Gotland set a new temperature record for the warmest August day at 32.9°C.

Image of the Day: Heat Wave in Northern Europe

Posted by feww on June 25, 2008

On the calendar, Scandinavian summer starts on June 21 in 2008, but summer temperatures had already settled over much of northern Europe by early June. This image shows land surface temperatures—how hot the ground is to the touch, a measure that is different than the air temperatures reported in the news—as observed by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite between June 2 and June 8, 2008.

The image compares the average temperature between June 2 and June 8, 2008, to average temperatures recorded during the same period in June 2000 through 2007. Areas that were warmer than average are red, while cooler than average conditions are represented in blue. The heat that dominated the weather in northern Europe in early June is evident in the dark red that covers Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and parts of Germany and Poland. Southern Europe experienced cooler than average temperatures during the period.

The intense heat and dry weather led to dangerous fire conditions in Scandinavia. Both Norway and Sweden were plagued with several forest fires in early June. A fire that burned for several days in southern Norway was the largest in the country’s history, causing an estimated ten million dollars worth of damage, reported The Norway Post on June 17, 2008.

You can download a 9-kilometer-resolution KMZ file of global land surface temperature anomaly suitable for use with Google Earth.
