Australia Bureau of Meteorology: Severe Weather Warning

    IDN28500

    Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
    New South Wales
Severe Weather Warning for flash flooding — for people in the Upper Western, Riverina and Lower Western forecast districts

Issued at 4:26 pm EDT on Wednesday 12 January 2011.
    Weather Situation

A high south of Tasmania is moving slowly east, while a low pressure trough extends through far western New South Wales into a low over Victoria. This pattern is bringing a humid northeasterly airstream across much of New South Wales, with rain and thunderstorms being generated near the trough. Precipitation is expected to increase during Thursday as the trough deepens, continuing into Friday before easing as the trough moves gradually east.

Rain and thunderstorms, which may lead to flash flooding, are forecast for the Lower Western forecast district and western parts of the Upper Western and Riverina forecast districts during Thursday and Friday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

    * Don’t drive, ride or walk through flood water.
    * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
